The talented teams at John Wright Designs and Joe Costantin Architecture are known for creating extraordinary interiors and exteriors. When the principals of both firms (Jack Wright and Joe Costantin) brought in The Todd Group to be a part of their team for this project in Princeton, New Jersey, our goal was to create a usable, functional, beautiful outdoor space. The Todd Group’s landscape architect Jeff Higinbotham designed an elegant landscape that expanded the usable areas of the yard while creating intimate social spaces throughout the property.
The homeowners wanted their estate to feel cohesive inside and out, so our goal was to offer a landscape design that emulated the home’s interior. The front parking court achieves this. We redesigned the entire court to better reflect the architectural style of the home and also redesigned the entry walkway with concrete pavers that mimic cobblestone. The result is a simple look that transitions from the parking spaces into the front steps and walkway.
The backyard of this distinguished property is now an oasis where the family can entertain and relax, moving from inside to out. Through an arched arbor, a natural pathway leads to the back patio. A furniture-grade cedar pergola over the dining area offers modest privacy, with wisteria vines growing up and over the lattice to create a sweet-smelling, shaded haven with an old-world feel. The homeowners can enjoy the formal garden space easily by moving through French doors.

We incorporated a self-contained water feature, stone fire pit, and sundrenched living space separated from the lush grass by a low seat wall made of a locally sourced natural stone.
