The Todd Group - Creating award-winning outdoor spaces for discerning NJ homeowners since 1975

Steve has worked for The Todd Group since 1984, working his way up through the years from landscaping to a foreman role. Today, he oversees the irrigation, lighting, ponds and water features, and holiday decorating divisions of The Todd Group’s business. In the past, he has managed the crews that mulch, plant, and install stone work for clients. The “every-day-is-different” aspect of his job keeps Steve on his toes, whether he is meeting with his crew to bring a new landscape design to life or troubleshooting an issue with a client’s fountain or pond. Steve is the go-to guy at The Todd Group for keeping clients’ properties in functional condition—and of course, beautiful.

Deep Roots with Steve Lang

Keeping-it-real job title
Jack of Many Trades, Master of None

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A cowboy. I wanted to ride horses and rope cows and wear boots.

How would people describe you?
I’m loyal to the end. I put other people’s needs ahead of my own. And I think most who know me would say that I’m a little shy until I warm up.

Little-known facts
I considered becoming a psychologist years ago. I’m a good listener and I like helping people.

What do you love to do outside of your job?
Fishing is my passion. I fish freshwater, large-mouth bass, but really, I would fish in a puddle if someone told me there might be fish in it. I’m in a Bass Club and we enter into tournaments about once a month. I’d fish 24 hours a day if I could.

What’s special about The Todd Group in your opinion?
We do exceptional work, but we’re also one-stop shop—we design, build, install, and maintain. But I think what really makes us special is that we go out of our way to help clients, no matter what the request. I’ve had clients call on a Saturday saying their cat is on the roof, asking if we could help. We consistently go a step beyond most companies.
