Mary Melofchik

Mary’s entire career has been focused on numbers. After high school, she started out in banking before moving into the financial services industry as an analyst with Prudential. While working full time, she pursued her accounting degree at night, graduating in 1996. After four years as a senior accountant at Mars, Inc., Mary moved into mortgage lending for greater flexibility during the busy years of raising two active children, working as a mortgage consultant and loan officer until the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis and housing crash. She did contract positions for a few years while caring for her mother, then returned to accounting in 2011. Mary spent time at an architectural firm, a property management company, and a construction company and also did accounting contracting to expand her skill set and gain exposure to a range of companies. In 2023, Mary joined The Todd Group, excited about the opportunity to become part of the positive, family-like culture. She oversees the accounting department and manages everything from month-end processes to forecasting to financial reporting. Mary holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Centenary University.

Deep Roots with Mary Melofchik

Keeping-it-real job title
Lover of Numbers

Where did your interest in numbers come from?
My dad owned a restaurant when I was little and got me involved in counting money, filling out deposit slips, and taking deposits to the bank. I loved it, and it shaped my career choices.

Little-known fact about you?
From around age five until I was 11, we lived above the restaurant, which was also a country Western bar. The bandstand was right below my bedroom and it used to rock until 3:00 a.m. on the weekends!

Words to live by?
Always let ethics guide your decisions. Follow your passions.

You’re now working at a landscaping and design firm. Are you a greenthumb yourself?
Not at all, but I admire those who are artistic that way.

What’s on your bucket list?
Spend more time with extended family, travel to unfamiliar places, and give back to my community.

When you’re not at work, where might we find you?
For many years, at my son’s wrestling meets! He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in May 2023, where he wrestled. We’ve been travelling around the country watching him compete for 16 years. It’s now a new chapter for us.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Always an accountant. I’ve always liked numbers, money, counting, and those kinds of things.

What made The Todd Group feel like a great fit?
The company culture was number one. In this role, I’m encouraged to make improvements and contribute ideas. And Michael as our leader has good values and treats his employees like family. It reminds me of my father, who taught me to treat any company I work at like it is my own. That’s how the people here are.
