The Todd Group - Creating award-winning outdoor spaces for discerning NJ homeowners since 1975

Jeff joined The Todd Group in 1999 and has spent the majority of his career with the company. After two years with an architecture firm in New York City primarily focused on transit work and a small design-build company in New Jersey, he followed a former colleague to The Todd Group—and quickly found the place to feel like home. As the company’s lead landscape architect, Jeff is involved in all aspects of a project’s design. He meets with new clients to develop a list of needs for a project, then performs site analysis to examine the existing conditions and challenges of a property. After conceptual design, he produces a detailed design and construction plan. The creativity of his role, family feel of The Todd Group, and opportunity to guide projects from start to finish appealed to Jeff when he first joined the company and are the very same aspects of his role that he continues to enjoy today.

Deep Roots with Jeff Higinbotham

Keeping-it-real job title
Outdoor Space Problem-solver

What do you love about your job?
Every client is a new opportunity to solve a unique problem. I enjoy designing spaces that people intend to spend a lot of time in and making them feel like an extension of the interior space. It’s a great feeling knowing they’re using and loving their outdoor space.

If you hadn’t become a landscape architect, what might you have done?
Something creative like advertising or marketing.

When it comes to your work, what are you passionate about?
It’s the creative aspect of this job. Clients come to us with a need that doesn’t have just one solution. I help them discover the solution that best fits their needs and makes them the happiest.

Where might one find you when you’re not at work?
Cheering on my kids at one of their swim meets.

Hidden talents?
I grew up in a very musical family and I always loved singing. In college, I was a member of the Rutgers University Glee Club and had the honor of singing Handel’s Messiah in Carnegie Hall after I graduated.

What’s special about The Todd Group in your opinion?
We have a truly great company culture and incredible longevity, with many staff that have been with the company for 10 or 20 years. We’re about creating relationships, not just getting the job done.
